OPI Spring/Summer 2013

Upcoming Collections:
Today, a friend of mine sent me two pictures of upcoming OPI nail polishes & asked if I have heard about them. I have not heard about them, but I feel like a lot of people would like the new releases of their Liquid Sand texture nail polishes.

The first collection is supposed to be released before summer called The Bond Girls. Remember they had a James Bond collection for the Holidays? Well this focuses on the girls played in the movies & they are all liquid sand finishes! For me, I think Tiffany Case looks very nice in the promo pictures.

The next collection is called Couture Minnie and it should be released after the Bond Girls. I wonder why OPI is going to release another Minnie Mouse collection since they just released a Minnie Mouse themed collection for last summer. The shades look similar to the ones from last year, but the glitter is different & there is a liquid sand finish included. This collection will consist of 5 nail colors compared to last year, which only had 4.

What do you think about these upcoming OPI releases? Are you a fan of their Liquid Sand formula?

OPI GoldenEye

Swatches & Review
Yesterday, I reviewed one of the two nail polishes I purchased from OPI's Skyfall Holiday Collection. The second nail polish from the collection I purchased was GoldenEye.
GoldenEye is a metallic gold with gold flakies. I did not think that it is glitter because while I was removing it, it was not gritty like glitter usually is, but it came off in flakes. It is loaded with gold flakes. It is very thin so more coats would be better. I only used two coats, but you can tell from my swatches that you can still see my nail line from the two coats.
From some angles, it kind of looks like there are some gold-ish-bronze flecks to it, but it is very minimal.

Normally, I am NOT a gold kind of girl. I do not like things that are gold, but this was amazing! When I saw this, I knew I had to have it, which was definitely a surprise! It is very shiny and it looks very flattering on my skin-tone. I think this shade would work with many skin-tones without making your fingers look like a off-shade. I love this color, but the removal sucks! Although it is not like glitter, I think it would be best to use the foil method so removing it would not be very messy. The gold flakes get everywhere on your fingers & they are so hard to remove. It just clings onto your skin so the foil method may be best. Although I am not originally a fan of golds, I think this is a good shade & is definitely a must have from the OPI Holiday collection! What do you think? Are you a fan of gold? Do you like the gold from the nail polish? Interested in any of the nail polishes in the Skyfall collection? :)

Comparison: OPI On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Zoya FeiFei

Swatches & Review
This past weekend, I went and purchased two colors from OPI's Holiday collection. One of the colors I purchased was On Her Majesty's Secret Service. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is part of OPI's Holiday James Bond: Skyfall collection. Zoya's FeiFei was part of their Fall Diva collection. While purchasing On Her Majesty's Secret Service, I thought it looked similar to FeiFei, but I still purchased it anyway because I felt like OHMSS was less blue than FeiFei is.
FeiFei is a grey/blue metallic, whereas On Her Majesty's Secret Service looks more like a gunmetal with a hint blue in the bottle.
On the first coat, these two definitely looks the same! There was no difference to me at all. I only put FeiFei on my ring finger because I wanted the focus to also be more on OPI since I do not have an individual review for it.
Although the first coat was sheer, it was definitely enough after the second coat. I used two coats for the OPI and three coats for the Zoya. After putting on the second coat, you can see a bit of a difference between the two. OPI leans more grey, while Zoya leans a tiny bit more blue. If you're in low light, there is no difference at all, but when you're where there's more sunlight, you can definitely see the slight difference. The shimmers on these are amazing. They both have flecks of gold and silver in them. It seems that FeiFei has some slight pink shimmers in it, while On Her Majesty's Secret Service has slight purple ones in it. (It is not noticeable in the pictures, but when it's in person, it is definitely amazing!) It also seems that the OPI one dries slightly gritty, while Zoya does not.

Overall, I feel like you would not need both of them since they are so similar. Like how I mentioned on my Diva post, FeiFei smells REALLY bad. There was no exception for On Her Majesty's Secret Service, they both smell horrible. Both of them smelled like skunk. There are similarities with their shade, and finish, but their smell also? They probably both have some of the same ingredients in there that makes it smell so horrible (maybe it's the shimmers used?). The smell does go away after it dries though, so if you do not mind the smell, this would be a good nail polish too. I really love the finish of these two so I would probably just use something to cover my nose while applying these. What do you think about these? Would you mind the smell? Do you hate it whenever you get two shades that are very similar?

Comparison: Jessica Gingersnap - OPI Warm & Fozzie

Today, I am going to do a comparison post with Jessica's Gingersnap and OPI's Warm & Fozzie. Jessica's Gingersnap is part of their 2012 Fall Collection: Spicy Dream. OPI's Warm & Fozzie was released last year as part of their 2011 Holiday Muppets Collection.
I purchased two Jessica polishes yesterday and when I came home, I realized Gingersnap looks really close to Warm & Fozzie. They are both packed with gold-ish shimmer, bronze and has a slight duo-chrome to it.
In the bottle, they look like they can be alike.

If you look at it, they seem similar, but they are not the same. It seems that Warm & Fozzie has a darker base color to it compared to Gingersnap, but they are definitely close enough that you do not need both. Warm & Fozzie is one of my favorite shades from last year's Holiday releases because it makes me feel all warm & fuzzy when I look at it, so I do not mind that I have two colors that are quite similar. Both only required two coats for full opacity and it did not take long to dry. How do you feel when you purchase 2+ nail polishes that are very similar to each other?

OPI DS Extravagance

So it is currently past 11 PM here and I'm still awake. Since school started, I have been so piled with work, I decided to take a nap today (that barely ever happens) & now, I can't sleep. I'm supposed to wake up in about six hours too, which is definitely not good! Anyway, I decided to post up a old swatch that I never posted on the blog of OPI DS Extravagance.

OPI DS Extravagance is part of their current Designer Series line. Their older DS line is filled with holographic finishes, but as the years went by, it has been moving away from that. Extravagance is a magenta with a scattered holographic finish. It is not in your face holo, but it is still gorgeous, especially in the sun. Out of the current line of Designer Series, I think this is one of my favorites. Although it is dark, it does not stain my nails or the skin around my nails when I remove it. I wish OPI would go back to making more holographics!

Spotted at TJ Maxx: OPI

Yesterday, I went into TJ Maxx since I was near one and I spotted some OPI sets. One of them are the OPI mini's from their Nicki Minaj collection that was released earlier this year. The other set was a set that was released last holiday for their Christmas sets, which contains the shade in Designer... De Better! which I have reviewed here last winter. I actually have the lip gloss from that set too, from buying it last year and although I like the nail polish shade a lot, the lip gloss just was not for me since it had a strong scent to it. It made me feel nauseous after wearing it for a while, but if you don't mind the scent, it's not bad at all! Both the sets I saw retails for $7.99 at TJ Maxx.

OPI - The Color of Minnie

Swatches & Review

The Color of Minnie is from OPI's 2012 Vintage Minnie Mouse collection. The Color of Minnie is well.. basically the color of Minnie, which is RED! Normally, I'm not the person to wear red. The only two other reds I actually use is Zoya's Reva & Essie's Big Bag Theory. Originally, I was not going to purchase anything from this collection, but after seeing it in person, I had to have it!

The Color of Minnie is a Red with subtle silver shimmer in it. The shimmer was hard to capture, and it is hard to see indoors, but when it's outdoor, the shimmer is a lot more visible. This was a really pigmented red color, and I could have totally gotten away with one coat easily. For my swatches, I used two coats. Application was smooth, so I had no problems with it at all. On my ring finger, I am also using another color from this collection, which is called I'm All Ears. It is a pink with darker pink & some blue shimmer. The shimmer in I'm All Ears is definitely more noticeable than The Color of Minnie. I'm All Ears required three coats since it is sheerer than The Color of Minnie. However, it did not affect the application of it at all.

Overall, I like these colors. I feel like they are perfect for summer, especially I'm All Ears since it is bright. My camera had a hard time capturing The Color of Minnie, so in real life, it is a tad bit darker, but it is definitely a gorgeous color. Both of these applied perfectly and even when I'm using it in almost 100 degree weather, it was not goopey after a while of applying, which is the trouble I have with some polishes when I'm painting my nails while it's hot out.

What do you think about this collection? Love it? Hate it? Let me know! :)

Dusty Pinks

I always find myself buying a lot of dusty pink colors because I think dusty pinks look good with pretty much anything, but that can just be my opinion. So today, I decided to do some swatches on a few "dusty" pink colors I have.

On my pinky, I have Zoya Penelope.
On my ring finger, I have OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes
On my middle finger, I have OPI Java Mauve-a
On my pointer finger, I have China Glaze Fifth Avenue
& On my thumb, I have China Glaze Sweet Cream

All of them are creme, but Gouda Gouda Two Shoes has a subtle shimmer to it. When comparing them, the two China Glaze's look like they really stand out because they are a lot brighter. When I wear them alone, they seem a bit more dustier, but that might be because there is not anything right next to it that is even dustier. The Zoya and OPI's seem very similar, but there are difference to them.
Zoya Penelope is similar to OPI Java Mauve-a, but Penelope is a lighter and brighter shade. Both the OPI's are very similar and the main difference is that Gouda Gouda Two Shoes has shimmer in it. China Glaze Fifth Avenue is dustier than China Glaze Sweet Cream, and Sweet Cream is definitely brighter. I also have a full review on China Glaze's Sweet Cream from a few months ago too :)
Overall, I really like all of these colors. Almost all of them were easy to apply, but China Glaze's Fifth Avenue is on the thicker side, which took longer to dry and you had to be careful on how much polish you have on the brush or it can come off goopey looking on the nail. I used one coat of Zoya Penelope, and two coats for the rest. What do you guys think of dusty pinks? Like it? Dislike it? Let me know! :)

Haul

I have never actually posted a haul post on this blog so this will be my first. This is my nail polish haul and they were all purchased within the past two weeks. :)
From left to right: OPI: Wooden Shoe Like to Know. Orly: You're Blushing, Faint of Heart & Nite Owl. Revlon: Whimsical.

Layla: Coral Glam, Retro Pink, Flash Black & Mermaid Spell

Flash Black: Look at the holographic-ness of it!

Out of everything, I was most excited for the Layla's. The Layla's are the first nail polish I have ever spent so much on. They retail for $15.50 each, but I'm a sucker for holographics and I did not want to miss out on these. They are currently on Aveyou.com and I believe there is a 20% off coupon for it so it brings the price from $15.50 each to about $12.60 each! Anyway, swatches to come soon for some! :)
Coupon code for AveYou: ALLCHIC

Anyway, is there any specific nail polishes that you just love? Any finishes, such as holographic, mattes, shatter, etc. Let me know! :)

OPI; Come to Poppy

Swatches & Review

Today, I have swatches of Come to Poppy from OPI's 2011 summer collection, Nice Stems. This collection came with four colors and out of the four, Come to Poppy was one of the ones I bought from it. I normally don't like bright pink colored polishes, but I felt like this was a color that was perfect for summer!
Come to Poppy is a frosty coral pink color. The formula of this nail polish was perfect! It was not too thin, or too thick. This was almost a one coater, although I put two coats in my swatches, I really could have gotten away with one coat if I used the first coat a bit thicker. It glides on smoothly and although it is some what metallic, I had no problems with it streaking or looking out of place after putting two coats on like how some polishes look like after applying. I am excited it is almost spring coming and it is perfect for not only summer, but spring!
Overall, I feel like this nail polish is one of my favorites even though I am not a big fan of pink. The color of this pink was bright, like a hot pink neon and it dried semi-matte so there might be some neon pigments in there, and I really like how it looks without top coat! It's shiny, but not too shiny. It also dried pretty fast (considering I didn't need over two coats for this). I know that this was from a past collection, however, I still see this polish around whenever I look for new polishes so if you like it, you should totally grab it!

Before removing the polish, I decided to layer Essie's Shine of the Times over it & I feel like that is such a nice combo! Flakies over a bright bold pink! What do you guys think?

OPI; I Have a Herring Problem

Swatches & Review

Today, I have swatches of I Have a Herring Problem from OPI's newest Holland collection! I was originally going to post this up last week, but once I got back to where I stay during the school week, I realized I left my camera with the pictures at home! This collection consists of 12 colors where 6 of them are creme's and 6 of them are shimmers. I purchased three of the shimmers and I Have a Herring Problem is one of them! This collection has two blue shimmers which are very, very similar, but I purchased both of them since I love blue nail polishes! Especially with shimmer in them.
Anyway, I Have a Herring Problem is a medium dusty blue. Out of this and I Don't Give a Rotterdamn, this is a darker version of it. However, the picture of this with flash makes it light enough for it to look like I Don't Give a Rotterdamn! The formula on this was pretty thin. It was not streaky when applying it, but after three coats, I was still able to see my nail so I used four coats in all these swatches for full coverage.
With flash
No Flash

Overall, I think this is a great color from the collection. Although it requires about four coats, the color was absolutely amazing! Especially in the sun. I did not notice it indoors, but when I was waiting for the bus, I looked at the color in the sunlight and I saw that the shimmer was not just plain silver shimmer, but I was able to see that there are rainbow shimmers in there. It is really hidden, but in direct sunlight, it looks awesome! Three of the days when the sun was out while waiting for the bus, I couldn't stop staring at the color of the polish. People around me probably thought I was a weird-oh, hah. So my pictures do no justice, even though it is pretty indoors as well. I think you guys just have to try it for yourself!

Zoya Kristen

Swatches and Review

Today, I will be reviewing Zoya Kristen from their Winter Feel Collection. I got this color from one of their flash sales back in December so it was free since I was one of the first 100 to get it. Okay well first, I got the first 100 promo, but the code disappeared at checkout for some odd reason, so I stalked the site for the next one and finally got my hands on this one!

When I first received this color, I was amazed at how pretty this color was! I was on the hunt for a nice dusty grey-blue polish and when I purchased Yummy last year, I thought it would be the one and I was so wrong considering it was way brighter! This is the perfect dusty blue color and it matches my skin-tone better than compared to Essie's Borrowed and Blue, which is a pale white-blue. Kristen applied on smoothly and only required two coats. The dry time wasn't bad for this polish either, since I usually have trouble with my other Zoya nail polishes because of their dry time. This is a polish I will definitely think of buying a back-up for.

I put on three coats on OPI DS Sapphire on my ring finger. Originally, I wasn't a big fan of Sapphire since it was so sheer, but I left the bottle open for a bit for it to thicken up and what better accent nail polish is there than a holographic one?

What do you guys think of Zoya's Kristen? Own it? Love it?

Holographic Nail Polish

Swatches and Review

Here are some random swatches of some holographic nail polishes I have and never actually tried.

Thumb: OPI DS Diamond. This is a light purple-ish color with a subtle holographic finish to it. The holographic-ness of this is not strong, but it is still very pretty. This nail polish is similar to Color Club's Fashion Addict, however, it is a bit darker than Fashion Addict. I put on three coats in the picture.
Index Finger: Color Club Love Em, Leave Em. This is a neutral holographic color and I love it! The holographic finish to this is again, not strong, but it is very a appropriate color to wear if you work and are restricted from "popping" colors. When indoors, the effect doesn't show much, but when you're outside, it is absolutely gorgeous! I put on two coats of this in the picture.
Middle Finger: China Glaze LOL. I read many good reviews of LOL and when I bought LOL, the bottle didn't show much holographic looks to it. When it put it on the nail, it still didn't show much when I was indoors so this color looked pretty dull and like a dark purple indoors, but when you go out, that's when the holographic finish shows up more! I am not really a big fan of darker purples, but this nail polish is an exception because it reminds me of grapes when I'm outdoors :) I put on three coats of this in the picture.
Ring Finger: China Glaze TTYL. Out of all the fingers I painted, I absolutely loved TTYL the most! This is pretty much like a neutral peachy color. It is not a very dark peach color and I think it complements my skin tone very well. When I first bought it, I didn't think I would like this as much as I do. The holographic finish to this is very strong and it also appears when I am indoors. I used three coats for this color.
Pinky: China Glaze QT. This is a berry pink color and this is easily my second favorite! It reminds me of raspberries and makes me crave for parfaits! lol. The holographic-ness of this is not very strong, but it is strong enough to see the holographic goodness of this indoors as well! I used three coats for this color.

Overall, I really liked these holographic nail polishes. OPI and China Glaze were both on the thin side, but it wasn't a very big of a problem since you can build up the color and they were not runny or too sheer as well! The Color Club's application was the best one of the bunch because it wasn't too thick, and it wasn't thin so it only needed two coats for full coverage. What do you guys think about holographic nail polishes? Own them? Love them? :)

OPI; Designer ... De Better!

Swatches and Review
OPI - Designer... De Better!

For this week, I'm wearing OPI's Designer... De Better. This is from their 2011 holiday Muppet's collection & I love this nail polish! I am normally not a big fan of foil finish polishes, but this one is just gorgeous! It looks like a silver, almost light bronze with dark bronze flecks on it, just perfect for the holidays! On my accent nail, I'm wearing China Glaze's Twinkle Lights from their 2011 winter Let it Snow collection. I know it seems really Christmas-y, but it is the perfect way to get you in the Christmas spirit! Especially when Thanksgiving is over & Christmas is coming next :)

I love the color of Designer... De Better, however, it took me 4 coats to get it opaque and the formula for mine was kind of runny. Maybe I just got a bad batch? If my nails are in sunlight, you can still see my nail itself so it might be better to wear a light-colored base coat. Other than that, I really love how the color looks! Own it? Love it? Share!

Color Club; Worth the Risque

Swatches and Review
In direct sunlight

In direct sunlight

In the shade

This is Worth the Risque from Color Club. I used Rainbow Connection from OPI on my ring finger as an accent. I absolutely love Worth the Risque. It is a silver holographic polish & it is affordable too! The nail polish itself was kind of thick, but it wasn't hard to work with & it dried fast. I have 3 coats of Worth the Risque on.
Rainbow Connection is from OPI's holiday Muppet's collection. I love how there are so many different colored glitters in here! I always wanted Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday, but I never wanted to spend so much on it so I'm happy I was able to get Rainbow Connection at a much cheaper price! It actually took me a while to get it because everywhere I went to was sold out of it. I was actually thinking of buying a second bottle, but I ended up not doing so since I don't think I will end up using the whole bottle anyway. The removal was hard, but that is a given since this is a glitter. I used to foil method, but some of the glitter were still there & it was stuck on like super glue! I had to peel it off and I used Worth the Risque under it as well as a base coat. Other than a removal, it is an amazing rainbow glitter polish!

Own it? Love it or not?
